RE: New TV break-in

I don't worry about break in. Run it the way you plan on using it from day one. The break in warnings are only for the protection of the manufacturer.
There is a myth that metal components have to wear into each other. It is BS. Metal can NEVER touch metal! If your bearings or whatever ever touch metal to metal they are instantly destroyed. All components are protected with a film of lubricant between surfaces. They NEVER actually touch.
So how is it that engines actually wear out then? How do bearings, camshafts, piston rings, etc wear out?
The original post didn't state if it was a diesel or gas engine. Cummins states that their engines don't require, "break-in" miles prior to towing and they are ready to be worked from the factory. Dodge wants 500 miles for the drivetrain.
Gas engine break-in I've read that the "better" way is a short warm up then run it like you stole it briefly and let it cool down and repeat the process. Something about a better ring seal.
I'm no expert, does that make sense?

RE: Fresh water pump won't work

I've noticed on mine that if the water tank has been dry and the trailer sitting for a long time, every now and then it can be difficult to get the initial prime again. What's worked for me is to hook up to the full hook up direct feed and get water running through the system and then switch over to the pump. Hasn't failed yet!

RE: Dodge 08 6.7L K&N Filters

I'm a firm non-believer in K&N filters. Increased air flow with more dirt/dust is never an improvement to me!

RE: Do performance mods make a worthwhile difference?

IMO, the best thing you can do to improve your mpg is to keep your air filter clean and slow down a little bit. I'm also up-shifting a little sooner than I had been. I went from 70 mph on the freeway to 65 with slower easier starts from the stoplights and noticed 2mpg improvement.
P.S. that 2mpg improvement is not towing but daily driving to work.

RE: size of 5er and RV parks

I've had trouble with a state park and my 29'. All the tenters took the open big sites and the one I got was flanked with lots of trees in the space and along the road. But there were "recommendations" for nothing over 28' in that park too. We got her in after a little while!

RE: Oooooppppssss!!! Hey 5er Guys--Check this out!!

One more reason there should be mandatory testing for people driving taller, longer, and heavier vehicles.
This could have EASILY been avoided if the driver didn't have their head up their bottom.
Mandatory testing doesn't prevent accidents like this.

RE: Bilstein Shocks...are they worth it?

Shocks are subjective....at best. Kind of like beer. Everyone has their favorite, but beer is pretty much beer.
I just replaced the rear shocks on my 2001 Ford Focus SE. I bought the car used in July of 2006 when it had 87K miles on it. Currently, car has 121K miles on it. I had Les Schwab install some Gabriel Ultra's on it.
Shocks that came off were Motorcrafts. Not sure if they were OEM shocks or not. Bottom line? Not one once of difference in ride between new and used shocks that came off car.
Obviously you are not a beer drinker or you need to expand your choices!! :B

RE: D rated 8ply vs E rated 10ply?

We've been talking mainly about load capacity differences between load D & E rated tires. How about sidewall flex? Does the load D rated tire generally have more sidewall flex than the E rated tire?

RE: Truck Bed and Bed Rail heights towing a FW?

I needed some minor modifications on my 5th wheel. It was an option when I bought it so it was very simple for us. Today's truck beds are very high and deep...if I bought a new truck now, I would put a flatbed on it and not worry about it.

RE: Pulling a 5th vs. TT is like...

Sway is virtually gone with 5th wheel. I can easily hook/hitch up by myself. I prefer backing up a TT more than a 5th wheel, but I'm getting better at it.

RE: Would you buy a truck with a standard tranny?

A lot of people who tow (like myself) prefer manuals. But I imagine that it's a lot easier to sell an automatic.

RE: Fulltiming in fifth wheel toy hauler?

Ask yourself why a toy hauler? Is it because you have a motorcycle or quad or some other toy that you will want to carry?
Although I have a toyhauler for my atv's and dirtbike, I've seen toyhaulers used for all kinds of things such as: R/C model airplanes, pets, canoes, and I recently met a retired couple fulltiming who uses the garage portion of the toyhauler as his woodworking shop.

RE: Removing windows Question

My buddy and I took all the siding off his trailer once for repairs. Removing the windows was the easy part. We just unscrewed the frame on the inside and took the two halves apart. The outside half usually needed a little prying to separate it from the putty.

Where could you take it???? Stay away from trees and anything that's not paved.
Nice to look at though.
Wouldn't go in many of the places we go, but it sure is a nice looking beast!
